The World Senior Games have been going on since 1987 and each year takes place in St. George, Utah in the month of October. Why not make this an annual trip to show what you’ve got against some of the fittest seniors on the planet?

Taking part each year would be the best bet as it will ensure that you are always fit and healthy. Not only do you get to travel to beautiful St. George every year, but you are constantly improving your quality of life and longevity.

Start training now!

What a great way to spread your social circle. I’m sure seniors meet at the games who continue to stay in touch after the games are over. Then every year they most likely have a reunion as another version of the games takes place.

It’s not just people you meet in Utah who might become friends. There are also several team sports. No matter where you happen to live you can form a team of seniors in your area to compete in Utah. Chances are, you will gain several new friends who are part of your team.

Some team sports include basketball, soccer, softball, and volleyball.

You can pit yourself against the best seniors in the world in your chosen sport.

Who knows, you might surprise yourself and bring home some hardware. Often there are seniors in and around 100 years old taking part in the Senior Games, so don’t let age stop you.

There are many age categories and I’m sure there will be one that will suit you just fine. You could find yourself racing against seniors your age from the UK, Germany, Japan or any number of countries. Often there are around thirty countries entered in the various events.

Maybe golf is your sport. They have that too in the senior games.

What’s your event? Are you in the 70-74 age-category? Do you think you could beat the 400-meter track record set by Dean Lundell when he went in 1:04:32 back in 2012?

He didn’t stop there. In 2015 he set a record of 1:07:92 in the 75-59 category, and then he set the record again in 2019 in the 80-84 category at 1:16:38. Thank goodness he’s slowing down a bit, but 1:16: is pretty darn awesome for someone in their 80s.

If you are a woman between 70-74 the winning time for the 400 meters was set by Sheila Allison of Surrey, B.C. Canada. She crossed the line in 1:39:70.

Maybe you think you are not athletic enough to run, but there are walking races as well.

There are several events for seniors that don’t involve running. How about Power Walking or Race Walking? Still, a bit too challenging.

There is archery, bowling, bridge, badminton, lawn bowls, golf, pickleball, shuffleboard, horseshoes, archery, square dance, and table tennis.

Utah is a beautiful state. Make it a holiday after the Games.

When these games were organized they did a great job of including something for seniors of all levels of ability, so indeed, there is something for everyone.

Maybe you would enjoy one of the Team Sports that I mentioned earlier. They even have events called Cowboy Action Shooting and Walking Tours that are not competitive but probably lots of fun.

What a great opportunity to show your stuff on a world stage against your peers. Win or lose, it’s sure to be lots of fun and a great opportunity to do some traveling and perhaps try a new sport.

The Huntsman World Senior Games are quite famous and all perhaps you should start training for the upcoming Games.

If you do decide to give it a try it will get you moving as you prepare to take on the world. There are really no losers. Just taking part will do wonders for your quality of life and longevity.

It will also give you a chance to make lots of new friends.

I heard from a friend of this situation I searched all over the internet for information about this competition, but I did not find anything very clear. When I gave this article I clarified with all the information I needed.

Thanks again for this post. If you don’t mind, I will share this article on my social media account. Good luck!

    1. Thank you for your comment and I am glad you were able to gain some insight from it. I think it’s a great opportunity for seniors to get out there and try something different to put some excitement into their lives.

  2. Hello ray. Games have lots of benefits for our overall health and enjoyment too. Thank you for sharing this information about Huntsman Senior Games coming up on October, 2020. This is a very good time to get this info; enough time to prepare towards it and reap most of the benefits in it, especially becoming a winner. 🙂

    1. Thank you for your comment. What I like most about the Huntsman Senior Games is that they are all-inclusive. They have an event for everyone despite mobility issues, age, or athletic ability.

I think it would be an excellent vacation idea to  travel to Utah and take part in the Games, while at the same time, possibly making new friends.

  3. Thank you Ray, you’ve just given me a new holiday idea. Where I come from we call these sorts of events the ‘Masters Games’ which attract thousands of entrants every year.  In fact the Games are so popular you need a small army of dedicated volunteers to keep it all running smoothly (no pun intended)!

Friends and family support for these events is so critical and is often a deciding factor in whether one chooses to attend or not. I’m not all that familiar with the Huntsman Games – is there an opportunity for family members or friends to officially attend the Games alongside athletes as ‘Support Crew’ or ‘Fans’?  Do they need to register as well?

    1. Thanks you for making another comment. For sure, fans are allowed to join their athletes. However, there is a process to follow. All the info you will need is on this link>>>>>>>>

These are different games from the Masters Games for several reasons. I believe the Masters Games rotate venues so you could be traveling anywhere in the world to take part. However, the Huntsman Senior World Games have always taken place in Utah. The best part about this, is that they will really be well organized as they have been putting on the event for years.

Huntsman also differs from the Masters Games as you will probably have a lot more seniors 85+ in the Huntsman Games.

Seniors in their 90’s have competed before.

  4. Hello, I really want to first appreciate your effort in putting this great website together and writing this article. i have tried playing the huntsman senior game so many time and i have never come out with a win. my only gains has been travelling to places and meeting new people

    1. There’s not a thing wrong with that. There are some very talented seniors in the world and you get to meet them up close and personal in events such as this.
