What a great goal for seniors. Why not plan to take part in the 2020 Huntsman World Senior Games set to take place in St. George, Utah in October 2020? The Huntsman Senior Games, four great reasons to go for it.
If you take the plunge and decide to enter one or more of the events, then good for you?
There are several great reasons to make the decision to participate in the event of your choosing.
IT’S GREAT FOR YOUR OVERALL HEALTH
Spending the time training on a regular basis just to get ready will ensure that you are doing a great service for your overall health and well-being during the entire year.
Your heart-health, bones, ligaments, and tendons will all benefit from regular exercise. Heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and many health issues that plague seniors across North America will take a backseat as you improve your overall fitness level.
Chances are very good that you will adopt a far healthier diet as well as part of your training regimen and that will also play a huge role in you becoming the best version of your self you can be.
There is another huge benefit as well. Most physical activities that involve movement will do wonders for your overall balance. Falling is a huge issue for seniors and becoming an athlete is a sure way to minimize the falling risk.

TRAVEL AND MEET NEW PEOPLE
The World Senior Games have been going on since 1987 and each year takes place in St. George, Utah in the month of October. Why not make this an annual trip to show what you’ve got against some of the fittest seniors on the planet?
Taking part each year would be the best bet as it will ensure that you are always fit and healthy. Not only do you get to travel to beautiful St. George every year, but you are constantly improving your quality of life and longevity.
What a great way to spread your social circle. I’m sure seniors meet at the games who continue to stay in touch after the games are over. Then every year they most likely have a reunion as another version of the games takes place.
It’s not just people you meet in Utah who might become friends. There are also several team sports. No matter where you happen to live you can form a team of seniors in your area to compete in Utah. Chances are, you will gain several new friends who are part of your team.
Some team sports include basketball, soccer, softball, and volleyball.
YOU MIGHT EVEN WIN!
You can pit yourself against the best seniors in the world in your chosen sport.
Who knows, you might surprise yourself and bring home some hardware. Often there are seniors in and around 100 years old taking part in the Senior Games, so don’t let age stop you.
There are many age categories and I’m sure there will be one that will suit you just fine. You could find yourself racing against seniors your age from the UK, Germany, Japan or any number of countries. Often there are around thirty countries entered in the various events.
What’s your event? Are you in the 70-74 age-category? Do you think you could beat the 400-meter track record set by Dean Lundell when he went in 1:04:32 back in 2012?
He didn’t stop there. In 2015 he set a record of 1:07:92 in the 75-59 category, and then he set the record again in 2019 in the 80-84 category at 1:16:38. Thank goodness he’s slowing down a bit, but 1:16: is pretty darn awesome for someone in their 80s.
If you are a woman between 70-74 the winning time for the 400 meters was set by Sheila Allison of Surrey, B.C. Canada. She crossed the line in 1:39:70.
THERE IS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
Maybe you think you are not athletic enough to run, but there are walking races as well.
There are several events for seniors that don’t involve running. How about Power Walking or Race Walking? Still, a bit too challenging.
There is archery, bowling, bridge, badminton, lawn bowls, golf, pickleball, shuffleboard, horseshoes, archery, square dance, and table tennis.
When these games were organized they did a great job of including something for seniors of all levels of ability, so indeed, there is something for everyone.
Maybe you would enjoy one of the Team Sports that I mentioned earlier. They even have events called Cowboy Action Shooting and Walking Tours that are not competitive but probably lots of fun.
What a great opportunity to show your stuff on a world stage against your peers. Win or lose, it’s sure to be lots of fun and a great opportunity to do some traveling and perhaps try a new sport.
The Huntsman World Senior Games are quite famous and all perhaps you should start training for the upcoming Games.
If you do decide to give it a try it will get you moving as you prepare to take on the world. There are really no losers. Just taking part will do wonders for your quality of life and longevity.
It will also give you a chance to make lots of new friends.
